Tracy M. Dodson, Ph.D., MSN, RN, CEN, associate professor at the College of Nursing, is committed to helping students succeed through compassion and innovative teaching techniques. These techniques, accompanied by a passion for education, have been recognized with the Glenn Frank Distinguished Teaching Award.

Tina Patel, associate professor of interior design, thinks students should have confidence, creativity and commitment in their design work. Her philosophy in the classroom has led her to be awarded the Glenn Frank Distinguished Teaching Award.

Leveto's philosophy of teaching is that it requires compassion, understanding and patience. When mastered, it can create a transformative experience for students. This approach to education helped Leveto earn the 2025 Glenn Frank Distinguished Teaching Award.  

Education is a process that goes beyond studying and memorizing, according to James Redfearn, Ph.D., assistant professor of biological sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences at �Ը������� University. Redfearn's attitude, approach and creation of this supporting space led him to be awarded the Glenn Frank Distinguished Teaching Award.

The �Ը������� University Board of Trustees will hold its next regular business meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, in the Urban Conference Room, Library, second floor, on the Kent Campus. The Board will consider the recommendations of the standing committees, proposed personnel actions, and new business. Trustees will retire into executive session to consider specific topics as provided under Ohio’s “Sunshine Law.”

The College of Aeronautics and Engineering hosted the 2025 National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) SAFECON Region III competition Oct. 19–24 at the �Ը������� University Airport in Stow, Ohio. The week-long event brought together collegiate aviators from across the region for a flight and ground competition focused on precision, safety, and professionalism.

The new suite includes six online certificate programs that align with the cannabis industry’s most in-demand job sectors, creating a clear, credible path for students to enter the industry.

�Ը������� University observes Thanksgiving Break from Nov. 26 through Nov. 30. 

Bruno Ast, the architect who designed the university's May 4 Memorial, has died at age 88. Ast won a national competition to design the memorial in 1986. In his , it was said that he was especially proud to have been chosen as architect for the project.

Area police agencies will conduct joint training exercises from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Business and Administration Building along Summit Street on the Kent Campus.

The �Ը������� University Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting at 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 10. The sole purpose of the special meeting is to consider a proposed collective bargaining agreement between �Ը������� and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), �Ը������� University Employees Local 153.

�Ը������� University will be closed Tuesday, Nov. 11, in observance of the Veterans Day holiday. No classes are scheduled, and university offices are closed.

American Academy student Alexandre Andrade, who is majoring in marketing and entrepreneurship at the Ambassador Crawford College of Business and Entrepreneurship, has learned to embrace cultural differences during his international journey to Ohio.

�Ը������� University holds its annual Veterans Day Commemoration at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 10, at the Student Green on the Kent Campus. All are invited to attend and pay tribute to those who have served in the U.S. armed forces.

For 2025-2026, the Kent Campus has continued the highest recognition of a Gold ranking for the second consecutive year. In addition, �Ը�������’s Collegiate Purple Star designation, first presented to the university in 2022 for its support for veteran and military students, has also been renewed for three years. 

This year’s speaker for �Ը������� University’s Bowman Breakfast was the embodiment of the symbiotic relationship between the university and the city of Kent that is celebrated at the annual event.

A �Ը������� University student whose darkest day was seen around the world on the cover of Life magazine has died. John Cleary, 74, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away Oct. 25 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Lauren Huffman, a long-time advocate for student success at �Ը������� University, has been named Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) advisor of the year. 

Attending university athletics and arts events as a way to come together during challenging times was among the many topics �Ը������� University President Todd Diacon discussed Oct. 23 during his monthly Talking With Todd town hall-style Teams meeting with the campus community.
