Three Minute Thesis competitions, like the one that took place recently at �Ը�������, are held at institutions nationwide and help student researchers practice presenting complicated research data briefly and simply, in a way that's easy for non-academics. 

Student groups and classes celebrated Halloween in creative ways as unique as their majors.

The fifth annual Chem-O-Ween, presented by �Ը�������'s Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry was its biggest and most exciting to date. It featured Halloween-themed activities, contests and four different themed rooms hosting fun and fascinating scientific demonstrations.

�Ը������� University's Brain Health Research Institute recently held its annual Neuroscience Symposium 2025, Conference and Research Exchange. The two-day event, which took place at the �Ը������� University Hotel & Conference Center, highlighted the research of �Ը������� faculty and students.

This year’s speaker for �Ը������� University’s Bowman Breakfast was the embodiment of the symbiotic relationship between the university and the city of Kent that is celebrated at the annual event.

Small towns generate a lot of misconceptions. Some believe that growing up in a small town can feel limiting or that the towns are outdated. For Jennifer Mapes, Ph.D., assistant professor of geography, author and cartographer, small towns not only break these stereotypes, but they have also provided a wealth of research.

In July 2016, Jill Cofojohn became the first radiation therapist in Ohio to use proton therapy to treat a cancer patient. Nine years later, Cofojohn – a �Ը������� Salem graduate – helped introduce this technology in Columbus where she now serves as the lead proton therapist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

Delonte Goodman is a graduate student in �Ը�������'s College of Aeronautics and Engineering. He will complete his master's program in mechatronics in December, before moving on to his doctoral program in the spring semester. He is active in multiple student and professional organizations at �Ը������� that enhance and complement his studies and also allow him to assist and mentor undergraduate students. 

Launching seed balls, learning about plants and insects, engaging with interactive games and coloring were just some of the events that the �Ը������� University Child Development Center’s preschool and kindergarten classes participated in for Pollinator Day on Sept. 5.

Jennifer Mapes, an assistant professor of geography at �Ը������� University, developed an interactive mapping project that reimagines how people connect with the places they live. 

When the �Ը������� Golden Flashes football team took the field on Saturday, Oct. 11, fans at Dix Stadium looked to the sky as a �Ը������� Alta X drone released the official game ball before kickoff. The successful drop marked a first for �Ը������� and a milestone for the College of Aeronautics and Engineering.

The first thing you will learn about brothers Will and Ray Maynard is that they are twins –  not identical in looks, but in nearly all other aspects.

Creating e-textiles – electronic textiles that can be used to integrate wearable technology into clothing that is comfortable and practical – is the topic of a hands-on, maker workshop and a lecture in �Ը������� University’s Design Innovation (DI) Hub in collaboration with �Ը�������’s School of Fashion.

�Ը������� University’s School of Theatre and Dance, Wick Poetry Center and Brain Health Research Institute joined forces for an Oct. 1 dance performance that set poetry to motion.

The wetlands near �Ը�������'s Kent Campus are a great location for studying wildlife. Researchers visited recently to install nesting boxes for ducks.

David E. Silva participated in The John and Fonda Elliot Design Innovation Faculty Fellows Program, a six-week intensive fellowship with the Design Innovation Initiative that ran through July 11th. The program embodies DI's core mission of fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, connecting design, innovation and technology while serving as an incubator for cross-university projects.

Deepshikha Bhati has reached several milestones in her short career as an educator and researcher, all of which highlights her dedication and passion for sharing her expertise with others. She is a computer science lecturer on the �Ը������� Stark campus, with a keen interest in artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

When School of Visual Communication Design professor Hadi Rahmati met Computer Science assistant professor Raiful Hasan at �Ը������� University's new faculty orientation in 2023, their conversation about their respective research interests led to an important project. They're working together to solve a big problem: how can self-driving cars communicate better with pedestrians?
