Pathway 2 Teach Apprenticeship FAQ

Considering participation in Pathway 2 Teach or exploring it for your district?

This page answers common questions about program eligibility, coursework, costs and next steps for districts and prospective participants. The information below is intended to help school leaders and paraprofessionals better understand program expectations, requirements and the application process. If you have additional questions after reviewing this information, please contact our team for guidance.

Program Eligibility and Roles

Can an individual be employed as a preschool paraprofessional and participate in the program?

Yes. Preschool paraprofessionals may be eligible as long as they are currently employed as a paraprofessional and the district is able to support the on-the-job learning and mentorship requirements of the apprenticeship.

Is there a minimum number of years a paraprofessional must be employed by a district to be eligible?

No. There is no minimum number of years of employment required. Eligibility is based on meeting admission requirements, district sponsorship, and the ability to complete both coursework and apprenticeship expectations.

Would this program be limited to paraprofessionals, or could other roles (e.g., a school secretary) participate?

This program is designed specifically for paraprofessionals working in a P–12 classroom setting. Positions such as school secretaries or other non-instructional roles would not be eligible, as the apprenticeship requires classroom-based instructional experience.

Coursework and Program Structure

Are all courses offered online?

Most of the coursework is offered online, which allows participants to continue working full time. There may be limited in-person courses (i.e. ASL), and those would be clearly communicated in advance.

You mentioned 60 credit hours prior to the apprenticeship, can you clarify this requirement?

Participants must have completed approximately 60 college credit hours prior to entering the registered apprenticeship phase. These credits typically include general education and foundational coursework and are required to meet licensure and apprenticeship standards. Prior transcripts will be audited, when applicable, to determine whether previous coursework may be applied. In addition, credit by exam and portfolio submissions may be used to satisfy certain credit requirements.

Cost and Financial Considerations

What is the cost of the program?

Program costs vary by individual based on prior credits, financial aid eligibility, credit by exam, and portfolio assessment. Many participants may qualify for financial aid. Specific cost details are discussed during individual advising meetings.

Survey and Next Steps for Districts

The survey asks districts to identify interested paraprofessionals. Do we need to provide names now?

No. Districts do not need to provide names at this time. However, we do request names once districts have had the opportunity to share information with their paraprofessionals. This allows us to follow up directly with recommended candidates and invite them to learn more about the program.
