Financial Information

The cost of education is a concern to both students and parents. The following links to university-wide costs are provided to help you quickly estimate the cost of a degree in architecture.

Tuition, Housing, and Dining

Please note that housing and dining are university-provided options. Off-campus housing and meals may be more or less expensive than university offerings.

Books and Materials

Costs for textbooks, reading materials, and studio supplies vary by semester. Studio courses typically require fewer textbooks than seminars, lectures, or general education courses, but they do include costs associated with studio materials. Students can expect to spend approximately $200–400 per year on textbooks and reading materials.

In addition to textbooks, studio courses usually require drawing and model-making supplies. Students should plan for an initial outlay of approximately $200–400 during the first and second years of the program for one-time purchases that will be used throughout the course of study (such as drawing tools and modeling equipment). Students should also plan to spend approximately $150–300 per semester on expendable supplies, including sketchbooks, tracing paper, pencils, chipboard, basswood, polystyrene, and similar materials. As students advance in the program, costs for expendable supplies are often replaced by expenses associated with large-format printing.

Computers

Students are required to purchase a graphically capable, consumer-grade laptop. Minimum specifications are available at: /caed/computer-requirements.

Studio & Course Travel Costs

Studio and course travel are integral components of the architecture curriculum, providing hands-on learning experiences through scheduled trips to local, national, and international sites.

Travel typically occurs in upper-division undergraduate and graduate studios and courses and is partially supported through course fees. Information about associated travel costs, including expenses not covered by course fees, is shared with students in a timely manner prior to travel.

In general, course fees range from $100–300 per semester, depending on the course and travel destination. Additional travel opportunities, including study abroad programs, involve separate program fees and related expenses, which are communicated to interested students in advance.
