Cory Anderson, Ph.D, is an NICHD K99/R00 Postdoctoral Researcher in Population Health and Demography at the Population Research Institute, Pennsylvania State University. He researches distinctive ethnic and religious groups, with particular focus on the Plain Anabaptists including Amish. These populations are growing - some exponentially - almost completely from high birth rates and low attrition. As this growth is almost entirely in rural North America, plain Anabaptists will profoundly transform non-urban areas in the coming decades, notably in the Midwest.
Anderson earned his Ph.D. in Rural Sociology as a Presidential Fellow at Ohio State University, following a master's in Urban and Regional Planning from Virginia Commonwealth University and a B.S. in Geographic Science from James Madison University. A dedicated educator, Anderson engages students through dynamic teaching and community-based learning. He is also co-founder and editor of the Journal of Amish and Plain Anabaptist Studies and director of the Amish & Plain Anabaptist Studies Association, promoting dialogue among scholars, service providers, and plain people.
