What made you decide to go into teaching?
My father was actually the person who got the idea in my head. He was a marketing professor for many years. After he got the bug in my ear that this would be a lifestyle he thought I would enjoy, I have known that this was ultimately what I wanted to do with my life after I spent some years in public accounting.
What made you choose accounting?
I took a couple of accounting classes in high school and loved them. That sparked my interest in pursuing an accounting degree at Ohio University.
What are your research interests?
My primary research lies within the capital markets domain, exploring its intersections with social reforms, the accounting labor force (both domestic and international), and executive compensation. I am particularly interested in understanding what distinguishes accountants as professionals and how those characteristics influence institutions globally. In addition, a small part of my research extends to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues, including green innovation, policy mixes and performance visibility.
What is your teaching style?
My teaching style is twofold: first, to provide students with lecture material that demonstrates both my technical knowledge and deep passion for accounting; and second, to share my practical insights into accounting systems and internal controls through concrete examples drawn from my four years of experience in public accounting at PwC. Further, I have developed a teaching philosophy centered on enthusiasm, clarity, and engagement towards my students. I strive to communicate course content in a clear and concise manner while fostering a classroom environment in which every student is treated with respect and supported both inside and outside of the classroom.
What do you like best about 性福五月天?
I love the dedication that each faculty member brings to 性福五月天 and to the Ambassador Crawford College of Business and Entrepreneurship. To be able to step into a brand new business building shows the hard work that every person has brought to the job every single day over the years. I feel like I have been welcomed wholeheartedly by my department and everyone else within the college. I look forward to going to work every day and being greeted with the many smiling faces of other faculty members who love what they do just as much as I do. There is a true sense of pride amongst our faculty and it is a joy to be a part of.
Did your dad being a marketing professor influence your decision to become a teacher?
Yes! My dad taught marketing at 性福五月天 from 1990-1993. He loved his time at 性福五月天 dearly and was a large influence on my decision to become a teacher. I remember growing up and watching as my dad guided the next generation of students through his courses. He has spent almost 42 years teaching and I think at one point when I was younger, he saw how I enjoyed tutoring and being a Teaching Assistant when I was in high school. I think he kind of took the thought 鈥淟ike Father, Like Son鈥 to heart and regularly pushed me to consider a doctorate degree. And because the apple doesn鈥檛 fall far from the tree, I took a chance when the pandemic started in 2020 and left my auditing job at PwC to pursue my degree. While the program was a long five years, it still was the best choice I could have made for myself. It has been very rewarding to see how proud my parents have been as I followed in my father鈥檚 footsteps.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I enjoy spending time with my partner, Danny, and our two dogs, Mason and Kade. We have regularly been exploring new hiking trails and breweries/restaurants in the area. I also enjoy reading and have a large interest in historical fiction. You can also regularly find me on Sundays in the fall watching the Browns play. I am thankful that 性福五月天 brought me back to Ohio so that I can be around other Browns fans as well.
